I’ve been nominated for a Liebster Award!

Deanna from The Book Lover’s Attic has nominated me for, you guessed it, a Liebster Award! Liebster award

The Liebster Award recognizes upcoming blogs and tries to direct people to them. As it reads, the purpose is really to discover new blogs and help new bloggers on the way. Recently, I have changed my blog almost completely considering look, feel and content to some extent and I’m very happy with how it turned out. Though the blog has been up for over a year, only in July I really started actively again, finding what I like to write and connecting with others. The blogalong in August gave a boost to this, and now with the Liebster Award (yay) I feel it is recognized. So thanks, Deanna, for nominating me!

Of course, the award comes with some ‘assignments’ that I love to do 😉 First, I have to answer the following questions…

1.  What is your favorite family/holiday tradition?

Well, in the past it would be celebrating Saint Nicholas or Sinterklaas, which is essentially a gift-giving celebration. Children in the Netherlands believe in the existence of Sinterklaas and his black helpers unconditionally, putting their shoes near doors or chimneys and singing songs hoping to get a gift. When they find a gift the next morning, they know Sinterklaas has been in their house. The day before his birthday, Sinterklaas would have left a big basket full of packages in the attic (or so I believed, obviously), that we had to take to my granddad that evening, when the entire family would join us and we’d give each other gifts. Well, Sinterklaas gave them, of course, and we just handed them out 😉 We don’t have small children anymore, and as an aunt, my mother and my grandfather have passed away, we don’t celebrate this anymore.
Currently, therefore, I’d have to say the Christmas dinner, where we all bring something to eat and small gifts (mostly useless) to play a game with.

2.  If you could meet any author living or dead, who would it be?

That’s a very tough choice, cause I like so many books and authors! I think… Thea Beckman, one of the greatest author’s of child and YA literature in the Netherlands, who passed away in 2004. One of her translated books is Crusade in Jeans. But if you’d ask the same question a week from now, I might name a different author

3.  If you lived on a space station, what food would you insist comes with you?

Despite how I love chocolate and sweets, I think I’d go for apples.

4.  What is your fantasy vacation destination?

Hehehe, love this. Should I be able to pick from the various fantasy worlds I’ve read about, I’d opt for Greenland post-WW3 when the Earth has tilted and Greenland is actually lush and green and the people there honour the great Mother Earth in a society led by women. A peaceful society, naturally, what did you expect with women in charge! It comes from Thea Beckman’s ‘Children of Mother Earth’ trilogy (unfortunately not available in English), which is incidentally why I chose her as the author I’d love to meet.

5.  If you had to give away all of your books, which one would you secretly keep?

Only one?! Aww… The first part of the trilogy then… But I really don’t want to have to make this choice, ever.

6.  Do you ever get caught singing in the car?

All the time!

7.  What was the first album (vinyl/cassette/CD) that you purchased for yourself?

That’s quite some time ago. I think I’ve bought perhaps 15 CDs in total throughout my life (I’m not a music fan). It might have been a CD by Chipz, a Dutch band, or a CD from a musical we saw with the family. I honestly can’t remember.

8.  If you could change places with any famous person for one day, who would it be?

These questions are difficult! JK Rowling came to mind first.

9.  Do you ever eat breakfast for dinner?

Yes, though not quite frequently. Dinner usually consists of pasta, rice or potato dishes, but sometimes I’ll have a hot meal at midday and eat bread for dinner.

10.  What book has had the greatest impact on your life?

Sweep by Cate Tiernan. I was always interested in magic and wanted to be a wizard ever since I read Harry Potter and ‘So you want to be a wizard’ by Diane Duane. Sweep made me realize there are people practicing magic today, here, as well, and not only in fantasy novels. It guided me towards finding out more about wicca, which eventually led to my current practice.

Having answered these questions, let me present to you these 10 bloggers with currently less than 200 followers (though of some I’m not quite sure as they’re not on WordPress). They are my nominees for the Liebster Award!

The Silver Leaf Journal
Mrs. Healthy Ever After
The Varied God
Stay for a Spell
A Less Travelled Path
Making Montessori Ours
Zon en Maan
The Raven and The Oak
Veleda’s Tower
The Sexy Witch Herbal

And of course, they also have 10 questions to answer. Here’s what I’m curious about:
1. Which character from a book would you love to date with?
2. What’s your secret indulgence?
3. Do you dare to take the last cookie/chocolate/whatever-is-on-the-plate?
4. What animal resembles you?
5. In what way do you play with food?
6. What playground equipment do you (secretly) love going on?
7. How do you arrange you books?
8. Would you say anything if the person you’re talking with has food left between his/her teeth?
9. Which myth do you like best of all?
10. What did you secret place as a child look like?

So now I’ll notify my nominees I’ve nominated them. Thanks again, Deanna, for the nomination!
